Inspiring Women in Business to Thrive
(and Why We Need to Get Over Ourselves!)
Time and time again I hear the same excuses from female entrepreneurs as to why they are not achieving their goals.
I can’t find any clients/customers
No one will pay these prices
I don’t have enough time to make it work
I haven’t got enough experience
My children are too young to run a successful business
These are all common problems for women in business, but I’ll let you in to a little secret - each and every one of them is BULLSHIT.
There I said it.
(It’s actually a self-preservation thing, fight or flight - your brain is trying to keep you safe from danger. I just like throwing the word bullshit around every now and then to add bit of drama.) Instead of these negative thoughts controlling your behaviour, you need to take back control and start turning them around. It’s all about mindset, you’re never going to succeed if you don’t believe that you will. I’m not talking about positive affirmations and sending your requests out to the universe (not dismissing it, it’s just not my thing), I’m talking about having faith and confidence in yourself and believing that YOU can do it.
Women, especially those with children, seem to struggle with this the most. We attach emotion to EVERYTHING, where our male counterparts often wouldn’t. When I had my children I lost all of my confidence. It has taken me seven years to find it again, so I get it. I get how hard it is to believe in yourself, to believe that you know your shit, to believe that you ARE the expert in what you do. To believe that you are worth the prices that you need to charge. To believe that customers are out there right now looking for someone just like you. By holding yourself back you could be denying clients a solution to their problem, the solution that you could offer them if you could just get past your own confidence blocks.
So, if this sounds like you, what can we do to get you moving forward? Where do you find your courage?
I find my courage by doing.
Yep, just getting on with it. I put my big girl pants on, give myself a good talking to and
By doing one thing every day you can start to chip away at those negative, self-sabotaging thoughts and begin to work on improving your mindset. Approach one publication with an idea for a feature, contact one previous customer telling them about a new product, show up and get visible by sharing one social media post about you. Not your business, you, sharing why you are passionate about your service and are the expert in your field. Tell one person what you do every day, and it will start to get a hell of a lot easier!
That, my friends, is when the magic happens. It’s actually quite addictive, courage. The more you experience it, the more you crave! Tasks that once seemed impossible become easy and you begin to seek out new challenges. You start to enjoy pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, chasing that rush of adrenaline as you achieve new, amazing things.
This is exactly how I feel when I see one of my clients ‘get it’. When I work with them and see them begin to flourish, growing in confidence every time I see them. It’s an amazing feeling, and is what drives me (totally selfish of me!) to want to help more entrepreneurial Mums achieve their goals in business.
People often assume that I am a confident, outgoing person when in fact the opposite is true. Just a few months ago I had never really put myself out there, let alone delivered regular videos to my audiences! At the beginning of 2019 I gave myself a good talking to and decided to take control of my destiny. I came up with a plan of what I wanted to achieve, along with a solid strategy of how to get there, and I just bloody got on with it! I ignored those nagging voices telling me that I couldn’t do it, I avoided the usual procrastination tactics and I did it.
As a Mum of three running three businesses it hasn’t been easy, with so many balls up in the air the juggle is constant. There have been blips along the way that could have easily knocked me off my path, but I refused to allow them to ruin all of the hard work that I had put in to my progress. It’s all about choices, and I chose to keep going and make my goals a reality.
Anything is possible, you just need to flip the ‘fuck it’ switch. I’ve got your back with this, but there will be some tough love involved.
